Dr Alison Kamffer, known to many as Dr Ali, was born in the United Kingdom and studied at Birmingham University Medical School. She came to South Africa in 1983 for a 3-week job in Ladysmith, Natal, but fell in love with the country and its people, and eventually settled in Cape Town.
Dr Ali obtained the MFGP ( now called FCFP) from the College of Medicine of South Africa in 1986. She obtained a Diploma in Acupuncture from the South African Acupuncture Society in 1998 and completed a course in Obesity Management at the Foundation for Professional Development in 1999. She has recently obtained a BSc in Scientific Nutrition from Bircham International University.
She now lives in Robertson, with her husband and 4 dogs, runs a small practice for acupuncture and people with weight problems and assists at a local practice from time to time.
She has developed a great interest in nutritional and alternative medicine, having seen the limitations of traditional pharmaceutical-based western medicine. In her spare time, she enjoys training her dogs, walking and cycling.
